Ever wonder where the term “dog days” comes from?
So did we! And we were a little offended (isn’t everyone offended by something these days anyway?) that one of our favorite critters of all time is associated with mundane-ness! Wonder no more! According to the online Farmers Almanac , the name actually has nothing to do with our canine buddies.
The name actually has do with Astronomy. The ‘dog days’ refers to the period of time between July 3 and August 11 to be exact (oops, PODsox…there is no such thing as a ‘dog days of winter’!…meh…maybe we’ll start something….), which is often the hottest part of the year in the northern hemisphere. During this time, a star named ‘Sirius’ (yep, we’re serious….) is the most closely lined up/visible near the sun. Sirius is part of the constellation “Canis Major”…hence, the Dog Days! So, now you know!
What does all of this have to do with great compression socks? Well….you love dogs….we love dogs….hey! We should wear our favorite things on our legs! Maybe they (ahem, WE here at PODsox compression socks!) have figured out how to add some fun to the functional ugly white compression socks of yesteryear. Yes, dear nurse! These Dog Days Compression socks are for you! Yes, traveler! These Dog Days compression socks are for you! Here’s to the dog days, happy legs and canine cuddles all year long!
